Keep it, just in case you:

want to read it/look at it/remember it.

can use it for a crafts project.

need it for an emergency.

Store it until winter.

Store it until summer.

Store it until you need it.

Can you get rid of these tangible “things” (i.e. photo albums, books, school work, etc) that sit in your bedroom, closet, garage, <insert other storage space>?

Can you live a life where if everything were to burn in a fire and all you could run out with was your laptop & hard drive, you wouldn’t be devastated one bit?

I’d like a life with less clutter and tangible stuff — but there’s some kind of attachment to physical objects. Just as looking at photos digitally may evoke a different emotion or response than flipping through a physical album.

Are we conditioned to be attached to physical things?

Or can we truly live a less materialistic lifestyle and attain more freedom?

I want to clear my room except for things that I use on a weekly basis.

I think it will make me happier.

I’m wondering what other peoples lives are like who have done something similar…

Going through my old stuff, trying to get rid of at least 5 things a week like I had mentioned previously…

I almost forgot how to work a cassette tape.

Listened to:

Cab Calloway – Happy Feet

Los Del Rio – Macarena

Atlantic Starr – Masterpiece

…and myself singing when I was six years old, making up a Father’s Day song (rhymes and all)

…and myself playing the piano, my last year of lessons in preparation for Certificate of Merit.

Invention #13 – Bach

Polonaise in g minor – Chopin

Sonata Op. 6 – Beethoven

Sonata (?) – Mozart

Waltz – Chopin

Phantom – Bober

To work around getting rid of sentimental items, I took photos of my old toys and trolls so that I can look back on them, if I so choose.

I think I have a dust ball in my throat. Haven’t gone through this stuff in years.

Busted out the old Nintendo Game Boy. Freakin’ huge ass piece of technology. Played my favorite game, Tetris. Definitely not as good as I used to be, but good times…

Goodbye sentimental items (part I)!

I’ve been making it a goal to get rid of at least 5 things a week, either by giving things away or donating them.

So far, so good.

I’m getting down to the part where I’m left with boxes of sentimental items such as written letters, schoolwork, stories, essays, poems, childhood toys, cassette tapes and CDs.

I’ve been trying to find a way to part with the sentimental items — and I think I might actually get around to cleaning it all out. They say that things should be properly displayed or hidden away, and if they have value to you, they shouldn’t be in boxes or sitting inside a closet. So I think I’m just going to have to start digitizing my things (i.e. taking photographs of the items) otherwise it’s going to grow into a heap of things that will take even longer to get rid of.

My goal is to not dread moving — when the time comes.

Nothing left at my parents house.

I want everything to fit in my car.

This will definitely be a slow, but useful process to start simplifying my life further.

Challenge me.
